Anthropic has upgraded Claude's voice mode to include its more capable Opus and Sonnet models, previously restricted to the Haiku model. This enhancement allows users to conduct spoken conversations with Claude, eliminating the need for typing and reading. Users can fluidly switch between Claude's models and between text and voice interactions within the same chat, preserving context. The integration of Opus and Sonnet enables longer and more intricate discussions, including feedback on conversational style. Claude's voice mode can now also access connected tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Slack to perform tasks verbally, such as checking calendars or summarizing emails. Free users can link one tool, while paid subscribers can connect multiple tools. The available models in voice mode now correspond to the user's subscription plan, and voice chats begin with the model last used in text. Language support for voice mode has expanded beyond English to include several other languages. Voice mode is accessible across various platforms, including mobile, desktop, and web, with an optimal experience on phones. Voice conversations are subject to usage limits, and Anthropic's Fable model is not yet supported. This development comes shortly after OpenAI launched ChatGPT Voice for its desktop app, controlled by voice through multiple agents.
