Cleaning the scientific house: Rebuilding trust in science requires confronting the harms of ghostwriting | Science

American science is under attack. Recent cuts to funding and staffing of federal agencies, layoffs of scientists, and rescission of billions of dollars in grants are unprecedented in US history and threaten the stability of the scientific infrastructure that, since World War II, has made the US the world’s global scientific leader. So this might not seem the right time to raise questions about scientific integrity. When someone is burning down your house, it is probably not the right time to worry about cleaning it. But if someone is trying to dismantle your house, then it is a good time to shore up its foundations.
