Cloudflare Must Block 'Piracy Shield' Domains and IP Addresses Across Its Service

A Milan court ordered Cloudflare to block pirate streaming services showing Serie A football matches in Italy. The ruling targets Cloudflare's CDN, DNS, WARP, and proxy services, impacting its functionality in facilitating access to these illegal streams. The court's decision is based on Italy's 'Piracy Shield' legislation, which aims to combat copyright infringement. Cloudflare must prevent domain name resolution and traffic routing to the identified pirate services, including future ones. The order extends to Cloudflare's free VPN service, WARP. Cloudflare is also required to disclose customer data related to these pirate streaming services. This includes information from their VPN and DNS services, potentially impacting user privacy. Failure to comply results in a daily fine of €10,000. The court order mandates Cloudflare cover the legal costs. The ruling highlights the legal challenges faced by internet infrastructure providers in dealing with online piracy.
