DashCon, the infamous celebration of Tumblr fandom, is coming back. This time, organizers say it will be different

DashCon, a 2014 Tumblr-themed convention, infamously failed due to financial mismanagement and organizational issues. Its image, a deflated ball pit, became an internet meme symbolizing event planning disasters. Attempts to revive DashCon have been made, and now a new team plans DashCon 2. This iteration aims to celebrate internet history and a specific era of fandom culture, not specifically Tumblr. The organizers, Avis and Simone, highlight their event planning experience and claim to avoid past mistakes. DashCon 2 will be held in Toronto's Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre on July 5th. Ticket and vendor applications are opening soon. Online reactions range from hopeful anticipation to skeptical apprehension. Challenges have already arisen, including a venue change and a date shift. Despite past failures, a ball pit will be featured at DashCon 2.
