The author worked on a large-scale project at TELUS, creating a real-time telemetry analytics platform for over 100,000 set-top boxes. The goal was to improve operational decision-making and customer experience. The existing data infrastructure was outdated and inefficient, hindering real-time data analysis. The project modernized the infrastructure using Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Apache Airflow and Infrastructure-as-Code tools were crucial for this modernization. The previous system used inefficient, batch-oriented data pipelines. Real-time diagnostics were impossible with the old system. The project overcame significant challenges related to data infrastructure limitations. A future-proof solution was successfully implemented using the new infrastructure. The overall outcome was a significant improvement in data processing and analysis capabilities.
