Disney+ is launching vertical videos this year

Disney+ is introducing vertical videos to its platform in the US, aiming to attract more viewers and increase app engagement. This decision was revealed at the CES 2026 Tech + Data Showcase event. The company previously tested vertical video with ESPN's Verts, gaining valuable user insight. Disney plans to use the format for various content types, extending beyond movie and series teasers. Original short-form programming will also be included in the vertical video format. Erin Teague, Disney Entertainment’s EVP of Product Management, emphasized the intention to integrate the feature seamlessly for users. The target audience primarily includes Gen Z and Gen Alpha, who prefer shorter content on their phones. Disney aims to create a personalized experience to make Disney+ a daily destination for its users. Increased user engagement within the app may lead to more exploration of its content library. This strategy aims to solidify Disney+’s position in the competitive streaming landscape. Ultimately, the success of this move hinges on attracting a broader audience and increasing their time spent on the app.
