Dolby Vision 2 Debuts With Solution for HDR Content That's 'Too Dark'
Dolby has announced Dolby Vision 2, an advanced version of its HDR format. This new iteration boasts a more potent image engine designed to enhance TV performance. Dolby Vision 2 introduces Content Intelligence tools for optimizing picture quality based on the displayed content. Key features include Precision Black for improved clarity in dark scenes and Light Sense for dynamic picture adjustments based on ambient light. Specific optimizations for sports and gaming are also included, such as white point adjustments and motion control. The format incorporates new tone-mapping that leverages advancements in TV brightness and color. These improvements aim to deliver higher brightness, sharper contrast, and richer colors while respecting artistic intent. Dolby Vision 2 also introduces Authentic Motion for a more cinematic and judder-free viewing experience. The technology will be available in a core product for mainstream TVs and a Dolby Vision 2 Max version for high-end displays. Hisense TVs will be the first to feature Dolby Vision 2, with other manufacturers expected to follow.
