Dune: Awakening will spice things up on May 20

Funcom has announced that its open-world MMO game, Dune: Awakening, will be released on May 20 for PC. The game takes inspiration from Frank Herbert's novels and the 2020s films, but also deviates from the established canon. In the game's version of the Dune world, the Fremen have vanished, Paul Atreides was never born, and Lady Jessica gave birth to a girl. This allows the developers to use familiar environments and characters without following the original lore. Players start as a prisoner sent to Arrakis to investigate the Fremen's disappearance and can choose to become an agent of the Atreides or Harkonnen. A character creator is available today, allowing players to customize their hero's looks, choose their home planet, caste, and mentor, and take the Gom Jabbar test. The character creator also includes a benchmark mode to test PC hardware. The full game will launch on May 20 on Steam for $50, with pre-orders opening soon. The game will also be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but no release date has been announced for console versions. A new trailer for the game has been released, showcasing the game's features and gameplay.
