Acyclic Schiff base atropisomers have remained inaccessible because of longstanding synthetic and stereocontrol challenges. Here, the authors report a palladium-catalysed asymmetric N-allylation enabled by substrate guided catalyst evolution, delivering Z selective atropisomeric Schiff bases with high yields and enantioselectivities.
