Power BI Projects, or PBIP, allow for file-based reports and semantic models, supporting developer workflows like source control and automation. Previously, changes made outside Power BI Desktop required a restart to be visible. This update introduces automatic detection of external PBIP file modifications. When a PBIP file is altered, Power BI Desktop now prompts users to reload the updated project. Applying these external changes allows for an immediate refresh without needing to restart the application. This significantly streamlines the workflow between Power BI Desktop and external editing tools. Furthermore, Power BI Desktop now offers an "Open in VS Code" option for PBIP projects. This directly launches Visual Studio Code with the project loaded, providing instant access to project files. These enhancements facilitate the use of PBIP files with external tools and automation scripts. Users can now seamlessly edit project files in Visual Studio Code, update them via scripts, or work with AI development tools. Testing this feature involves opening a PBIP project, using the "Open in VS Code" option, making a change, and then applying it within Power BI Desktop. This new functionality creates a smoother, more integrated experience for developers working with Power BI Projects.
