The EU General Court dismissed a challenge against the EU-US Trans-Atlantic Data Privacy Framework. The court ruled that the US provides adequate personal data protection for data transferred from the EU. The framework allows Europeans to file complaints about US companies' data handling. A French politician, Philippe Latombe, argued the agreement lacked sufficient privacy guarantees due to mass data collection and a non-independent complaint body. The court found the complaint body, the DPRC, to be sufficiently independent. It also rejected claims about widespread data collection. The court acknowledged the possibility of future changes to US law requiring review of the framework. Latombe may appeal to the Court of Justice of the European Union. This decision follows previous invalidations of similar data transfer agreements. The ruling allows continued data transfers between the EU and US under the current framework.
