Federal Judge Dismisses DNC 'Election Interference' Lawsuit Against Trump Admin

A US District Judge, Amir Ali, dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) against President Donald Trump. The lawsuit claimed that Trump would use his executive power to interfere in upcoming elections. The executive order in question stated that the president and attorney general would have the final say on legal questions for executive branch employees. The DNC argued that this would give Trump too much control over the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and allow him to cripple his political opponents. The FEC intervened in the suit, stating that it would remain neutral and that its stance on election law had not changed since the order was issued. The FEC attorney, Jeremy Newman, characterized the DNC's legal action as premature and said the FEC retained its independence. The DNC's attorney, Dan Fox, argued that the executive order was already having a "chilling effect" on the DNC's day-to-day operations. Judge Ali was skeptical of the DNC's claims, warning them not to "manufacture standing based on fear of future harms." The judge noted that the FEC had stated it would not deviate from its mission even under guidance from the Trump administration. The court would be willing to hear more arguments from both parties if the situation changed.
