In recent years, large-scale blade razor wire isolation fences have been erected in many of China’s iconic scenic areas and nature reserves, triggering widespread public and academic debate (1, 2). Although such hard barrier facilities effectively reduce illegal tourism behaviors and simplify scenic area management, their ecological consequences for mountain forest ecosystems have been largely ignored.
