First look at Gemini CLI

I decided to try out Google's new open source Gemini CLI after seeing friends talking about it on social media. I installed it and started building web apps without any preparation or script. I built a Sudoku game, attempted to build Tetris, and created a simple todo app. The interface output was clean, and the interaction mode was an evolution from previous AI coding assistants I've used. The minor rough edges were expected from a launch-day product. The performance and wait times were inconsistent due to heavy server load. I was impressed by the self-correction behavior when things broke, which was transparent and showed what the tool was doing or thinking. This experience might be useful for those evaluating AI coding tools or curious about Google's approach. I plan to test Gemini CLI with more complex scenarios and actual project files next. I tested the installation via npm, single-file web app generation, error handling and self-correction, web search integration, and general usability. The Gemini CLI is available on GitHub, and an announcement was made about its release.
