Fortnite refunds are coming: FTC says it’s sending PayPal payments and checks starting this week

Epic Games is issuing refunds totaling $245 million due to an FTC settlement over deceptive in-game purchases. The FTC alleged Epic used "dark patterns" to trick players, especially children, into unwanted spending. Refunds are for unauthorized purchases made between 2017 and 2022. Eligibility includes unwanted charges, unauthorized child purchases, or account lock after charge disputes. The average refund is approximately $114. Payments are sent via PayPal or check, with deadlines for redemption. Claim submission remains open until January 10, 2025. The first batch of 629,344 payments has been distributed. Future payment dates are yet to be announced by the FTC.
