Ada Lovelace said machines can't originate anything. She wrote that in 1843. Modern AI doesn't exactly prove her wrong, it just makes her statement genuinely difficult to interpret. The mechanism is still mechanical. The outputs are sometimes genuinely surprising. Nobody's resolved that gap, and real decisions about copyright, liability, and authorship are being made anyway.
