The FTC has delayed the enforcement of its "click-to-cancel" rule, designed to simplify subscription cancellations. This rule aims to prevent companies from making cancellation harder than signing up. Telecom companies opposed the rule and initiated legal action against the FTC. Originally slated for May 14, enforcement is now postponed to July 14. Some parts of the updated Negative Option Rule were already effective since January 19. The FTC cited the complexity of compliance as the reason for the delay. They conducted a new assessment of the burdens on companies. The FTC acknowledges potential issues and is open to future amendments after enforcement begins. Full compliance is expected by the July 14 deadline. The commission will actively enforce the rule from that date forward.
