Geekbench 7 Launches With Redesigned Multi-Core and GPU Benchmarks
Primate Labs has released Geekbench 7, a new benchmarking suite for CPU and GPU performance. It features a redesigned multi-core benchmark that simulates real-world application behavior by only using multi-threading when tasks are modeled as such. This update aims to provide more relevant multi-core scores that reflect actual device performance. The revamped GPU benchmark now emphasizes machine learning and content creation, incorporating tests for facial tracking, real-time video filters, AI image upscaling, and background blurring. New GPU tests also cover image editing and synthesis, including RAW processing, video color grading, path tracing, and fluid simulation. Geekbench 7 supports Nvidia's CUDA API along with OpenCL, Vulkan, and Metal. The benchmark now employs more demanding data sets for file compression, PDF viewing, and developer and image processing tests to better mirror current computer usage. New media workloads have been added to evaluate audio and video encoding, decoding, and processing, with tests mimicking video conferencing and content consumption. A Game Physics workload utilizing the Jolt Physics engine is also included, alongside an expanded Photo Editor and Photo Library test supporting new image formats. Geekbench 7 is available for iOS, macOS, and other platforms, remaining free for personal use with a promotional discount on the Pro version.
