Gemini Advanced can now recall your past conversations to inform its responses

Google is enhancing its Gemini chatbot by allowing it to recall past conversations to provide more useful responses. This feature eliminates the need to start over from scratch or search for previous conversation threads. Gemini may indicate if it referenced a past conversation to formulate a response. Users can review, delete, or decide how long Gemini retains their chat history, and can even disable this feature altogether. This feature is not unique to Gemini, as ChatGPT also has a memory feature that recalls information about users in certain contexts. The development of chatbots with long, reliable memories is part of the "agentic" AI future that companies like Google and OpenAI are working towards. Google's Project Astra, debuted at I/O 2024, featured a built-in memory, although it was limited and could "mis-remember" things. Gemini's new memory feature is currently rolling out in English to Gemini Advanced subscribers and will become available in more languages in the coming weeks. This update aims to make Gemini more useful and conversational, allowing users to build on previous conversations or projects. Overall, the development of chatbots with memories is a significant step towards creating more advanced and human-like AI interactions.
