Gemini AI is coming to Google TV devices in 2025, making them easier to talk to

Google presented new software and hardware upgrades for Google TV devices at CES, including the integration of Gemini, Google's AI model, to the Google Assistant. The new features will enable more natural conversations with the Google Assistant, allowing users to ask follow-up questions without needing to say the prompt again. The integration of Gemini will also enable more intuitive content search, such as searching for the newest movies from a specific studio. Interacting with connected smart home devices will also become easier, with users able to view their video doorbell feed by simply asking who's at the front door. The new Google TV experience will include YouTube videos to supplement answers to user queries, providing a list of relevant videos to check out. To facilitate the new AI-fueled Assistant capabilities, Google TV sets will now come standard with far-field microphones, allowing users to talk to the Google Assistant without the remote. Google is also working on a new ambient experience that will rely on proximity sensors to trigger an on-screen hub with personalized widgets. The always-on mode can display art or AI-generated screensavers, enabled by Gemini's smarts, when the user is not actively watching TV. The new features were demonstrated at CES and will be available on new Google TV devices sometime this year, although a firm release date has not been announced. The integration of AI technology into Google TV devices is part of a larger trend in the tech industry, with many companies showcasing AI-powered features at CES this year.
