Gemini in Android Studio, now helping you across the development lifecycle
Android Studio has released its biggest set of updates to Gemini, an AI-powered coding companion, since its launch. Gemini is designed to make it easier for developers to build high-quality Android apps faster. The updates bring the power of AI to every stage of the development lifecycle, directly within the Android Studio IDE experience. Gemini can now write, refactor, and document Android code, helping developers quickly move from prototype to implementation. It also streamlines workflows with features like documentation and commit message generation. The updates include coding features such as Gemini Code Transforms, commit message generation, and Rethink and Rename. Gemini has also been integrated into UI tools, making it easier to build with Compose and auto-generate Composable previews. Additionally, Gemini's intelligence can help developers release higher-quality apps with greater confidence by analyzing and testing code and suggesting fixes. The updates are available to try today in the Android Studio canary channel and are expected to be released in the stable channel in late December. Android Studio is committed to the responsible use of AI and won't send any source code to servers without consent. The updates aim to help developers build amazing apps and improve their productivity.
