Gemini models are coming to GitHub Copilot

GitHub is partnering with Google Cloud to make Gemini models, starting with Gemini 1.5 Pro, available to developers on its platform. This partnership allows developers to choose the best model suited to their needs, marking a new phase of AI code generation defined by multi-model functionality and choice. Gemini 1.5 Pro excels in common developer use cases such as code generation, analysis, and optimization. It features a long context window of up to two million tokens, allowing developers to process over 100,000 lines of code and suggest helpful modifications. Developers will soon be able to select Gemini 1.5 Pro in GitHub Copilot's new model picker to assist in coding-related use cases. The model will be available in GitHub Copilot Chat on github.com, Visual Studio Code, and with Copilot extensions for Visual Studio in the coming weeks. Gemini models support developer experiences across popular platforms and environments, including Google Cloud, Workspace, Android Studio, Firebase, and Colab. Google's own code-assistance tool, Gemini Code Assist, helps developers complete code as they write across popular integrated development environments. This partnership provides developers with flexibility and control in choosing the best model for their needs. The new partnership marks a significant step forward in AI code generation, offering developers more choices and capabilities.
