Gemini to launch crypto derivatives in Europe with new license

Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange, received regulatory approval to offer crypto derivatives in Europe. The Malta Financial Services Authority granted Gemini a MiFID II license, enabling EU-wide operations. This milestone allows Gemini to offer derivatives to both retail and institutional clients. The offering will include perpetual futures, initially for advanced users. Gemini's Maltese entity, Gemini Intergalactic EU Artemis, received the license on May 8th. While this builds on Gemini's European regulatory progress, full MiCA licensing is pending. Gemini chose Malta as its EU regulatory hub in January. The move reflects a growing trend in the crypto industry towards derivatives trading. Coinbase's acquisition of Deribit and Kraken's purchase of NinjaTrader highlight this trend. Gemini's European expansion signifies significant progress in the regulated cryptocurrency market.
