Generate data with Gemini in Google Sheets

Google Sheets is introducing a new AI function that allows users to input a prompt and optional data range to generate tailored text, summarize information, and categorize data. This feature, powered by Gemini, can be accessed from any cell in the spreadsheet. Users can input a specific prompt and data range to generate text, summarize information, or categorize data into meaningful groups. Examples of prompts include generating formal ad copy, creating an email, summarizing customer feedback, and performing sentiment analysis. The AI function can also be used to refer to non-contiguous ranges using concatenation in the prompt. This feature is designed to help end users create hundreds of rows of data quickly, without needing to be an expert in data or spreadsheets. The AI function currently supports text-based responses for various queries, and input information is optional but recommended for optimal results. To get started, admins need to turn on default personalization settings for their users, and end users can access Gemini in the side panel of Google Sheets. The rollout of this feature will begin on June 25, 2025, for Rapid Release domains and on July 29, 2025, for Scheduled Release domains. This feature is available for Google Workspace customers with specific plans, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and those with the Gemini Education or Gemini Education Premium add-on.
