Google Fiber has introduced new internet plans in Huntsville, Alabama, and Nashville, Tennessee, streamlining its existing options. The new plans, launched last month, include Core 1 Gig, Home 3 Gig, and Edge 8 Gig. The Core 1 Gig plan costs $70/month with symmetrical 1 gigabit per second upload and download speeds, and comes with a Wi-Fi 6E router and supports up to one mesh extender. The Home 3 Gig plan costs $100/month, offering up to 3-gig speeds, a Wi-Fi 6E router, up to two mesh extenders, and priority room optimization. Subscribers can add an internet battery backup for an extra $10/month, which provides up to two hours of full-bandwidth uptime in case of a power outage. The Edge 8 Gig plan costs $150/month, with upload and download speeds of up to 8 gigabits per second, a Wi-Fi 6E router, up to two mesh extenders, and a 25 percent refund if the internet goes down for over 45 minutes. It's unclear if these plans will be rolled out to more cities. Google Fiber has been expanding its fiber footprint across the US since its inception in 2010, achieving faster speeds over time. Last year, the company rolled out a 20-gig Wi-Fi 7 plan in select cities. The new plans replace the existing 1 Gig, 2 Gig, 5 Gig, and 8 Gig plans available in other supported cities.
