Google is making search ads more and less avoidable
Google is reorganizing its search results page to clearly delineate paid advertisements. Sponsored results will now be grouped together in a designated "Sponsored results" section at the top. The section will contain a maximum of four ads, maintaining the current ad size. Users can now easily hide the entire "Sponsored results" section after scrolling past it. This change is intended to improve navigation, especially considering the added AI Overviews at the top. The sponsored section may appear above or below these AI-generated summaries. A second "Sponsored results" section will also be found at the bottom of the page. This bottom section of ads can only be hidden after viewing them. This strategy aims to clearly separate paid content from organic search results. The new design is currently being rolled out across mobile and desktop globally.
