Google Play launches the first Indie Games Fund in Africa

Google Play is launching its Indie Games Fund in Sub-Saharan Africa to support the region's vibrant game development scene. This initiative aims to address the persistent hurdle of access to capital for local studios. The fund commits $1 million USD to empower indie game developers in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ten selected studios will receive individual investments ranging from $50,000 to $200,000. In addition to financial backing, recipients will benefit from dedicated mentorship and hands-on technical support. This support is designed to help studios scale their businesses and reach a global audience. The program is open to indie game developers based in eligible Sub-Saharan African countries. Applicants must have already launched a game on any platform, including Google Play, PC, or console. Detailed eligibility criteria and application instructions are available online. The application deadline is July 31, 2026, at 12 noon UTC.
