Google has released two new versions of its Flash model, 3.8 Flash and Flash Cyber. The standard 3.8 Flash model excels in agentic tasks, software development, and multi-step reasoning. Flash Cyber is specifically optimized for vulnerability detection and mitigation in cybersecurity. CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted significant improvements in 3.8 Flash over its predecessor, outperforming larger models on coding benchmarks cost-effectively. Flash Cyber demonstrates frontier-level performance in identifying and patching vulnerabilities at scale. This marks Google's third Flash release in six weeks, following closely behind version 3.7. 3.8 Flash is now available in Gemini Enterprise and through various developer tools, priced the same as 3.7 Flash. Users can adjust model effort for quality, cost, and latency, with 3.8 Flash working "harder" on complex tasks. The model boasts a 1M-token input window, can ingest multiple data types, and has shown impressive performance on specialized knowledge benchmarks. Flash Cyber is being rolled out to select partners through Google's Fairwind Program for advanced cyber defense capabilities. Google is already leveraging Flash Cyber internally to secure its own code, achieving superior patch generation for Chrome vulnerabilities. The model's ability to discover long-standing vulnerabilities and suggest fixes offers significant advantages to defenders against the rising tide of AI-driven exploits.
