OpenAI's new frontier model, GPT-6 Astra, is now integrated with the GitLab Duo Agent Platform. Internal GitLab evaluations show GPT-6 Astra significantly outperforms its predecessor, GPT-5.6 Sol. GPT-6 Astra completed typical runs 43.4% faster and used 42.7% fewer tokens per run. This means agentic tasks like dependency updates and build fixes will be completed more rapidly. Faster turnaround times reduce context switching for development teams, improving engagement. Even the slowest runs of GPT-6 Astra are now faster than the average runs of GPT-5.6 Sol. Crucially, GPT-6 Astra successfully completed 100% of benchmark tasks without stalling or timing out. While GPT-5.6 Sol had a higher rate of passing tests (76.7% vs. 63.3%), Astra's misses are returned as correctable patches. The reduced token usage allows token budgets to stretch further across a team's backlog. GPT-6 Astra is ideal for tasks where speed and token efficiency are paramount.
