Here Are the Latest AirTag 2 Rumors, Including No Rechargeable Battery

Apple is reportedly working on a second-generation AirTag, with a release expected in mid-2025, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Gurman stated that the new AirTag has progressed in manufacturing tests and is getting ready to be brought to market. Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also expects the second-generation AirTag to be released in 2025, although mass production was postponed from the fourth quarter of 2024. The new AirTag is expected to feature an upgraded chip with improved location tracking, possibly the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. The built-in speaker will be more difficult to remove as an anti-stalking measure. The design of the new AirTag is expected to be similar to the current model, with no major changes. The new AirTag will also feature better range, allowing the Precision Finding feature to work at farther distances. Additionally, the new AirTag may have some kind of integration with Apple's Vision Pro headset, although specific details are unknown. The AirTag 2 will still use a coin cell battery, rather than a rechargeable battery. Overall, the new AirTag is expected to offer several improvements over the current model, including enhanced location tracking and anti-stalking features.
