Hierarchical and context-dependent encoding of actions in human posterior parietal and motor cortex
Interpreting others' actions is widely thought to rely on mirroring, yet direct neurophysiological evidence in humans remains scarce. Using single-neuron recordings from motor and posterior parietal cortex in tetraplegic participants, this study reveals hierarchical, context-dependent action coding: motor cortex encodes intentions, while posterior parietal cortex links observed actions to goals.
