HomePod Turns 8: Here's When to Expect New Models

Apple introduced the HomePod eight years ago, promising amazing sound quality and intelligence, but it failed to deliver on the intelligence front. Siri is considered inferior to other voice assistants, and the rise of chatbots has set Siri further back. Apple launched the HomePod mini in 2020 and then discontinued the full-size HomePod in 2021, citing a focus on the smaller device, but declining sales were likely a factor. The full-size HomePod started fetching higher prices on resale marketplaces, leading Apple to release a second-generation full-size HomePod in 2023. There are no rumors of a third-generation HomePod, but two other HomePod products are allegedly in the pipeline. Apple is planning to release a new HomePod mini with an Apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, but details on new features are unclear. Apple is also rumored to be planning an all-new smart home hub with a screen, which would allow users to control smart home accessories, make video calls, and more. The device would feature a 6-inch or 7-inch display and an A18 chip, and might even double as a security system. The HomePod with a screen is expected to enter mass production in the third quarter of 2025, but it's unclear if it will launch this year or next year.
