House GOP Paves Way To Establish New Subcommittee To Investigate Jan. 6

House Speaker Mike Johnson announced a resolution to form a new subcommittee to investigate the January 6th Capitol breach. Representative Barry Loudermilk introduced the resolution, which will be voted on in September after the August recess. This would be the second House panel examining the events of that day. The authorization was delayed due to other legislative priorities. A previous Jan 6th committee was criticized for bias against Donald Trump. Several Trump allies faced imprisonment for refusing to cooperate with the original probe. Loudermilk, previously investigated by the prior panel, would chair the new subcommittee. He served on a committee that alleged errors in the original panel's investigation and recommended investigations into Cheney. Loudermilk and Johnson stated the need to uncover the full truth and address security failures. The new panel would fall under the House Judiciary Committee, led by Representative Jim Jordan.
