Dashlane, a popular password management tool with millions of users, has launched a Wear OS app. This expansion was made possible by the new Credential Manager API on Wear OS, which now supports passkeys. Previously, the lack of a standard credentials API on Wear OS prevented Dashlane from offering its core features on smartwatches. The Credential Manager API simplifies sign-in experiences by standardizing authentication options like passkeys, passwords, and federated identities. Dashlane found this API highly beneficial, allowing them to reuse 92% of their mobile app's Credential Manager code and 60% of their UI code for the Wear OS version. Implementing the Credential Provider interface on Wear OS was straightforward, largely by calling existing mobile code for credential querying and selection. Dashlane highlights that the unified API across phones and Wear OS significantly reduced development effort. As an early adopter, Dashlane's Wear OS app has already achieved 1% of their active device install base within three months. They recommend other developers integrate passkey options, viewing them as the future of authentication. Dashlane's innovation on Wear OS strengthens their brand as a user-focused innovator.
