The global health workforce faces a critical shortage, prompting research into AI's role in medical education. Google is exploring how AI can personalize learning and improve clinical reasoning for future healthcare professionals. Two studies were presented: one qualitative study on designing an AI tutor for medical students and another quantitative assessment of LearnLM, a Gemini-based model for learning. Both studies found a strong interest in AI that adapts to learners and provides feedback. Physician educators rated LearnLM higher for pedagogical quality and its ability to emulate a good human tutor. Medical students also found LearnLM more enjoyable to interact with. These findings highlight AI's potential to address the health workforce gap by enhancing education. The research emphasizes a learner-centered approach and responsible AI development. Future work will focus on ensuring accuracy, mitigating bias, and integrating AI into curricula thoughtfully.
