Apple has introduced a feature in iOS 18.2 that allows users to select their preferred default apps on iPhone, giving them more control over their device. This feature is available worldwide, not just in the European Union as initially promised. Users can now set third-party apps like Chrome, Firefox, Gmail, or Outlook as their default apps for web browsing, email, and other functions. This eliminates the need for extra steps like copying and pasting content between apps or navigating through share sheets. The feature includes settings for default email, messaging, calling, browser, passwords, and keyboards. In the European Union, users can also choose an alternative app marketplace instead of the App Store. In select countries, users can choose another app for contactless transactions using NFC technology. To set default apps, users need to open Settings, scroll to the bottom, select Apps, and then Default Apps. From there, they can tap a feature to change the default setting to a different app and follow any additional onscreen steps. This feature is available on iPhone and iPad running iOS 18.2 or later.
