iFixit Teardown Provides Look Inside iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

iFixit recently conducted a teardown of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, revealing some key differences in design and components compared to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. The iPhone 16 Pro models do not have the same simplified battery removal process as the iPhone 16, instead using traditional stretch release adhesive. The iPhone 16 Pro battery is encased in metal, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max does not have this metal casing, which is perplexing. The LiDAR Scanner is more accessible in the iPhone 16 Pro models, making it easier for repairs. Camera modules are almost identical but not interchangeable due to differences in cable length and screw placement. Apple moved the mmWave antenna to accommodate the Camera Control button, but it's now located in a hollowed-out space near the top of the device, which could affect signal strength due to the titanium frame. USB-C port removal is simplified, but Apple doesn't sell replacement USB-C ports. The logic board can be pulled out with only the removal of the upper speaker assembly, a significant design improvement. The iPhone 16 Pro models use a custom version of the Qualcomm SDX70M modem, not the X75 modem as rumored. iFixit gave the iPhone 16 Pro models a repairability score of 7 out of 10 due to design changes and available repair manuals.
