Introducing Headlamp Plugin for Karpenter - Scaling and Visibility

Headlamp is an open-source platform for exploring, managing, and debugging Kubernetes cluster resources. Karpenter is a Kubernetes autoscaling project that efficiently provisions new nodes and manages their lifecycle. A new Headlamp plugin has been developed to provide real-time visibility into Karpenter's operations directly within the Headlamp UI. This plugin visualizes the connections between Karpenter resources and core Kubernetes objects. It displays live metrics such as resource usage, allowed disruptions, and provisioning latency. Users can inspect pending pods and understand Karpenter's scaling decisions, aiding in debugging. The plugin also offers a configuration editor with validation for safe live edits of Karpenter resources. It provides real-time views of Karpenter resources like NodeClaims as the cluster scales. A dashboard highlights pending pods and the reasons for their inability to schedule. The plugin has been tested with AWS and Azure Karpenter providers, offering provider-specific information. Users are encouraged to submit issues for untested providers or feedback. Instructions for use are available in the plugin's README file.
