Google Workspace Updates

Introducing silent reading mode in Google Classroom’s Read Along

Read Along in Google Classroom is introducing a silent reading mode for students. This new mode allows students to read books silently, unlike the existing read-aloud option. Silent reading mode enables students to read independently without disturbing others, which is useful in shared learning spaces. Students can still access AI assistance for unknown words and comprehension questions in silent mode. They also continue to earn stars for reading accurately and answering questions correctly. Teachers will receive comprehension insights but not data on accuracy, speed, or phonics in silent mode. Existing Workspace customers need to enable Read Along in the Admin console. New Workspace customers will have Read Along automatically enabled. The silent reading mode is now available for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. Read Along is available for Google Workspace Education Plus and the Teaching and Learning add-on.
