iPhone Driver's Licenses May Soon Expand to New State
Utah is reportedly close to allowing residents to add their driver's licenses and IDs to Apple Wallet on their iPhones and Apple Watches. Signs of Utah ID integration have been found within Apple's backend systems, indicating progress on the feature. While Utah already has a standalone mobile driver's license app, direct Apple Wallet integration has been delayed since its announcement in 2021. The Utah mobile ID FAQ page suggests the integration is still in initial planning, but this information might be outdated. Existing users of Utah's mobile ID app will be able to transfer their ID to Apple Wallet once it becomes available. Utah was among the first states Apple mentioned when initially planning this digital ID feature. Several other states, including Connecticut, Kentucky, and Virginia, are also planning or developing similar Apple Wallet integrations. Many states, such as Arizona, California, and Illinois, have already successfully implemented digital driver's licenses and IDs in Apple Wallet. These digital IDs are accepted at select TSA checkpoints nationwide and at some businesses for verification. For states that do not yet support digital licenses in Wallet, iPhone users can add their U.S. passports using the iOS 26 Digital ID feature.
