The new iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable phone, featuring the ability to run two apps side by side. However, this functionality differs significantly from the iPad's Split View. Unlike the iPad, users cannot resize the app windows on the iPhone Duo; they are fixed at a 50/50 split. This is a departure from the iPad, where resizing has been possible since 2015. The fixed aspect ratio of the iPhone Duo's display is cited as the reason for this limitation. Each half of the inner screen is designed to mirror the outer screen's dimensions, ensuring apps fit properly. Allowing resizing would create awkward in-between sizes and present development challenges. Despite the lack of resizing, the foldable screen still offers advantages. These include easily switching between apps, opening duplicate app windows, and multitasking with messaging. Users can also save app pairs for quick access later on. The iPhone Duo and its foldable technology represent a new learning curve for users, particularly those accustomed to the iPad. Pre-orders for the $1,999 iPhone Duo begin in October.
