Jetpack XR SDK core libraries reach beta: The next milestone for Android XR
The Android XR SDK has introduced beta versions of Jetpack SceneCore, ARCore for Jetpack XR, and XR Runtime, signaling API stabilization for production. Jetpack Compose for XR will also be released soon. These tools empower developers to create immersive and augmented reality experiences for Android XR devices using familiar Android development practices. Jetpack SceneCore assists in building and managing 3D scene graphs with entity-component systems. ARCore for Jetpack XR enables digital content integration with the real world through perception capabilities like depth estimation and hit testing. The XR Runtime provides the foundational elements for device lifecycles and session management. Jetpack Compose for XR will allow for the creation of spatial user interfaces using Compose concepts. Recent beta updates include expanded testing support for spatial audio and XR devices, Kotlin coroutine alignment, and updated terminology for more consistent spatial management. Developers can integrate these beta libraries into their projects by adding the Google Maven repository and the specified dependencies to their Gradle files. With the growing Android XR ecosystem, now is an opportune moment to begin developing immersive experiences.
