Strain-releasing transformations of bicyclo(2.2.0)hexanes (‘ladderanes’) are underexplored because of their difficult synthetic accessibility. Now, a method provides easier access to this class of molecules and demonstrates their utility in cycloaddition reactions to produce useful structures for medicinal chemistry.
