Lego’s new set is a perfect Game Boy replica

Lego has released a new set, a replica of the Nintendo Game Boy, which is designed to tap into millennial nostalgia. The 421-piece set is the latest collaboration between Nintendo and Lego, following sets based on Super Mario, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart. The Game Boy set is available for preorder at $60 and will be available online and in stores starting October 1. The collectible is an almost exact replica of the original Game Boy, standing at 5.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide, with details like a control pad, A and B buttons, and a volume dial. The design team faced challenges in recreating the Game Boy's small size and angles, but used creative solutions and new Lego elements to achieve a accurate resemblance. Unfortunately, the Lego Game Boy is not playable, but it does come with a Game Pak slot and two Lego Game Paks based on The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Land. The Game Paks feature lenticular screens that mimic scenes from the games, allowing owners to briefly pretend it's a functioning console. The release of the Lego Game Boy comes as '80s and '90s IP has seen a resurgence in popularity, with retro tech aesthetics also gaining interest among younger generations. The set is part of a larger trend of retro tech making a comeback, with recent releases including a Commodore 64 PC and an iPod Nano design object. Overall, the Lego Game Boy is a nostalgic collectible that will appeal to fans of the original console.
