LG UltraFine 6K Review: A Premium 6K Display Designed With Mac Users in Mind

Apple's discontinuation of the Pro Display XDR has left a gap for Mac users seeking larger, high-resolution displays. LG's new UltraFine 6K monitor aims to fill this void with its 32-inch 6K Nano IPS Black panel. It offers a significant increase in workspace compared to Apple's 27-inch options, allowing for side-by-side app placement or ample room for creative tools. The 6K resolution provides a true Retina experience with sharp text and appropriately sized interface elements.Thunderbolt 5 connectivity ensures a seamless experience with modern Macs, handling display output, charging, and accessory connections via a single cable. The display also includes additional ports like DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 for broader compatibility. LG provides up to 96 watts of power delivery, capable of charging even a 16-inch MacBook Pro.The UltraFine 6K boasts improved industrial design with slim bezels and a refined aesthetic that complements Apple hardware. Its included stand offers extensive ergonomic adjustments, surpassing Apple's standard offerings. Image quality is excellent, with vibrant colors, solid contrast from the Nano IPS Black panel, and impressive sharpness due to the 6K resolution. However, the UltraFine 6K's brightness and refresh rate are not as advanced as Apple's Studio Display XDR, especially for HDR content and fast-moving visuals. While macOS shortcuts for brightness and volume are supported, they require a separate LG app, making them less integrated than desired. Despite these minor tradeoffs, the LG UltraFine 6K presents a compelling option for Mac users, combining a large, sharp display with excellent connectivity and Mac compatibility at a competitive price.
