M6 MacBook Pro Expected This Year With Apple's First 2nm Chip
Apple is reportedly planning to launch an updated base model 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M6 chip as early as this year. The M6 chip is expected to be a standalone offering, with higher-end Pro and Max versions reserved for the M7 series in 2027. This new chip will be the first manufactured on a 2-nanometer process, promising enhanced speed and power efficiency. It will also feature a new WMCM packaging technology for tighter integration of components. The M6 aims to be the most powerful chip in its class, boasting increased memory bandwidth of around 200GB/s. This will benefit graphics performance and on-device AI tasks. The chip will also include an upgraded Neural Engine for AI processing and improved video encoding/decoding capabilities. While the 14-inch MacBook Pro update seems likely, M6 updates for the Mac mini and iMac are less certain. The iPad Pro and MacBook Air might not receive the M6 chip this year due to their recent or planned refresh cycles.
