Apple is reportedly preparing a significant redesign of its high-end MacBook, potentially named "MacBook Ultra," for late 2026 or early 2027. This marks the first redesign in five years, introducing several new features to the Mac lineup. A key innovation will be the integration of an OLED display, offering enhanced visuals and power efficiency. The device is also expected to feature a touchscreen, a first for any Mac, alongside touch-optimized macOS gestures and controls. To accommodate touch input, the hinge will likely be reinforced, and the notch will be replaced by a hole-punch camera. This cutout will then expand into an interactive Dynamic Island, similar to its iPhone counterpart. The initial release is anticipated to feature M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with a second generation sporting M7 series chips for AI workloads planned later. The MacBook Ultra is expected to be thinner and lighter, available in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with slimmer bezels. While built-in cellular connectivity has been considered, it remains the most uncertain feature. The new macOS already shows hints of these touch capabilities, suggesting a more integrated user experience.
