Malware scan results now in blob tags (ADLS Gen2 HNS | Public Preview)

Azure Storage now allows malware scanning results to be directly visible within the file's tags for ADLS Gen2 accounts with Hierarchical Namespace (HNS). Previously, viewing scan results required using Event Grid, Log Analytics, or Defender for Cloud alerts. This improvement comes with a public preview release of "Blob tags for Hierarchical Namespace." This feature simplifies workflows by displaying scan outcomes directly on the files via blob tags. To enable this, you must have Defender for Storage malware scanning set to store results as "blob index tags." Also, you must enable the "Blob Tags for Hierarchical Namespace" preview feature. This allows for quick file scan status checks and filtering based on tag values. The feature is currently in preview, so there's no additional cost; however, costs are expected once it becomes generally available. To get started, enable the preview, configure Defender for Storage settings, upload a test file, and then examine the object's blob tags. This new functionality significantly enhances visibility and simplifies automated workflows related to file scanning. The quick checklist summarizes the required settings for the feature to function properly.
