Manifest V2 phase-out begins Note

Manifest V2 phase-out begins

Manifest V2 extensions in Chrome will be phased out as scheduled, with the goal of improving security, privacy, performance, and trustworthiness.Over 85% of actively maintained extensions in the Chrome Web Store now run on Manifest V3, and top content filtering extensions have Manifest V3 versions available.Based on community feedback, Manifest V3 has been refined to support user scripts and offscreen documents, and the number of rulesets for declarativeNetRequest has been increased.Review skipping for safe rule updates and version roll back provide greater control for developers.Starting June 3rd on Chrome Beta channels, users will see warnings for Manifest V2 extensions, followed by gradual disabling in the coming months.Users will be directed to the Chrome Web Store for Manifest V3 alternatives for disabled extensions. For a short period, users can re-enable Manifest V2 extensions, but this option will eventually be removed.Enterprises can use the ExtensionManifestV2Availability policy to exempt themselves from browser changes until June 2025.More information is available in the recent Chrome extensions Google I/O talk.Developers can reach out via the Chromium extensions mailing list for further questions.
