Meta is expanding its smart glasses lineup with a new collaboration with Oakley, introducing the Oakley Meta HSTN frames. The new frames will be available in several variants, similar to Meta's existing smart glasses. Meta had previously teased a new partnership and rumors suggested the company was expanding beyond its current frames. The Oakley Meta HSTN features a 12MP camera that can capture 3K footage, an LED privacy light, and open-ear Bluetooth speakers. The frames are designed to be more durable and feature Prizm and Prizm Polarized lens tech from Oakley. The battery life is rated for eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours on standby, with the included charging case providing up to 40 additional hours of on-the-go charging. The frames have touch controls, five onboard microphones, and speakers for talking to Meta AI, taking calls, sending messages, and playing music. Meta has also been rolling out live translation features for its smart glasses, and the Oakley Meta HSTN can help with accessibility, allowing users to send messages and take photos hands-free. The first limited-edition Oakley Meta HSTN will be available for preorder starting on July 11 in several countries, priced at $499, with other models starting at $399 arriving later in the summer. The new frames are part of a long-term agreement between Meta and Oakley's parent company, EssilorLuxottica, to develop multi-generational smart eyewear products.
